Once your child’s car has completed the process, you are free to leave. There are no formal meeting activities.
Each scout and sibling car will be given an assigned car number. Scouts will be assigned car numbers prior to weigh-in. Siblings will be assigned a number on weigh-in day. There is no specific location required to place the car number, so long as the number can be read. Your scouts will also need to name their cars. They will be making cards with their names and the cars names, to be displayed on stage after each den’s race.
Also, we ask that if it may be difficult to determine the difference between the front and the back of the car, that you discreetly mark the front so that on race day we don’t race your car backwards!
If anyone is not able to make it to the weigh-in, you can send your car in with your den leader. If the car does not get to the weigh-in, it cannot be raced on Saturday.
If any changes need to be made to the car to meet size and weight regulations, or make repairs to the vehicle, we will have a repair station at the weigh-in. Cars will also be tested on the track.
Photos will be taken of the cars and they will be checked in and locked in the closet after the weigh-in.
Remember, siblings are more than welcome to make a car and participate in the sibling race! It is held after all of the den races. Sibling cars must adhere to the guidelines and they will be locked up after the weigh-in as well. Additional car kits are available at the Scout Shop as well as craft stores such as Michael’s and AC Moore – just be sure that they say Official BSA
We will also have a sign-up sheet for our bake sale during the Pinewood Derby. The proceeds of our bake sale will support our February community service projects.
