Project Description
There are three different uniforms that are worn through the six-year journey through Cub Scouts. Lion scouts start with a more informal uniform consisting of a t-shirt. As scouts move from Tiger through Bear ranks, they wear a blue uniform top. And, finally, as the scout moves into WEBELOS scouts, they wear a uniform very similar to the uniform worn by Scouts BSA scouts.
Lion Scouts
The following items are needed for Lion Scouts (Kindergarten):
Lion rank Handbook, Neckerchief & Slide
Short sleeve Navy Blue Lion T-Shirt
Lion Hat
Cub Scout Belt

A few notes about the Lion uniform:
The Lion t-shirt should not to be confused with the short-sleeve blue shirt worn by Tigers, Wolves, and Bears.
No uniform pants are necessary – the Lion T-Shirts may be worn with navy pants or dark jeans. (Please avoid athletic or sweatpants, if possible.)
There are no patches to purchase for this grade level.
Tiger, Wolf, and Bear Scouts
The following items are needed for Tigers (1st Grade), Wolves (2nd Grade), and Bears (3rd Grade):
The Scout Handbook, Hat, Neckerchief, and Neckerchief slide for their respective rank.
Cub Scout Belt
Short sleeved Navy Blue Cub Scout Button Down Shirt
The following patches are needed:
Council Shoulder Patch – The Westchester Putnam Council, NY
Pack Numbers – Red ‘2’, ‘7’, and ‘1’ patches for Pack 271
Den patch with your son or daughter’s den number
The World Scout Crest Emblem (also called the fleur de lis)
NOTE: Rank patch is NOT required.

A few notes about the Tiger, Wolf, and Bear uniform:
If you’re getting a shirt for a younger scout (i.e. Tiger or Wolf), we recommend getting this in a larger size to allow him to grow into the shirt, as your scout will be wearing this style shirt for a few years.
We do NOT require the official uniform pants – the uniform shirts may be worn with navy pants or dark jeans. (Please avoid athletic or sweatpants, if possible.)
Required patches – in addition to the uniform, there are patches that are required to be sewn on the uniform. If you need assistance as to which patches you need and plan on going to the Scout Store in Hawthorne, tell them you are in Pack 271 in Mahopac and your son or daughter’s Den number and they’ll get you those and the rest of the patches you’ll need.
You do NOT need to get a Tiger, Wolf, or Bear rank patch – your son or daughter will be awarded his rank patch towards the end of the year at our Blue & Gold banquet.
The button down shirt usually comes with a large tag on it that explains where the patches are to be sewn on the uniform shirt but the diagram sometimes shows more than you will be using right now (a little confusing) so, we’ve included a few pictures of scouts at each rank to show where the patches are placed.
WEBELOS Scouts
Once your son or daughter becomes a WEBELOS Scout, they will we wearing a uniform very similar to a Scout BSA scout’s uniform. Items needed for Junior and Senior WEBELOS (4th and 5th Grade, respectively):
WEBELOS Handbook (there is only one handbook for both the JR. and SR. WEBELOS). This is VERY important to buy & have on hand at every Den Meeting
Short sleeve Tan button down uniform shirt
Navy Blue Epaulettes (for Shoulders of Tan Shirt)
Accompanying Patches (see below for Pack specifics)
WEBELOS Hat
WEBELOS Neckerchief & Slide
Green Scouts BSA belt
The following patches are needed:
Council Shoulder Patch – The Westchester Putnam Council, NY
Pack Numbers – Red ‘2’, ‘7’, and ‘1’ patches for Pack 271
Den patch with your son or daughter’s den number
The World Scout Crest Emblem (also called the fleur de lis)
NOTE: WEBELOS Rank patch is NOT required.

A few notes about the WEBELOS uniform:
We do not require the official pants, although you may purchase the greenish khaki uniform pants if you wish. Otherwise, the tan uniform shirts can be worn with dark jeans. (Please avoid athletic or sweatpants, if possible.)
You do NOT need to get a WEBELOS rank patch – your son or daughter will be awarded his rank patch towards the end of the year at our Blue & Gold banquet.
Please do NOT purchase the WEBELOS colors – the Pack supplies those and gives them to the incoming 4th graders (and any new 5th grade scouts) at our Bobcat ceremony in November.
